This information can be used to set up your email client, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, Mac Mail and Outlook to access your vee.net email account.
I suggest you use Mozilla Thunderbird when accessing your vee.net email - it is a free download and packed full of features, including excellent anti-spam and phishing protection.
Incoming Mail
Your vee.net email account is hosted by Quuxo, a business of mine. Use the Quuxo mail server to retrieve your email.
First, choose how you will access your mail:
IMAP
IMAP is the recommended way to get to your email. Messages are stored on the server, even after you have downloaded them to your computer. This lets you get to all of your email using vee.net webmail when you are away from your computer. It also acts as a backup in case your computer dies.
If your email client supports it (Mozilla Thunderbird does), I highly recommend you use the secure version of IMAP. If you are given the choice, both SSL/TLS and StartTLS are supported.
POP3
POP3 is an older, less useful way to retrieve your email. Once your mail is downloaded from the server it is deleted, leaving the messages on your computer as the only copy - you cannot access it again via webmail. Some older and commercial email clients may not support IMAP however, so POP3 is useful in this case.
Again, if your email client supports it (Mozilla Thunderbird does), I highly recommend you use the secure version of POP. As for IMAP, if you are given the choice, both SSL/TLS and StartTLS are supported.
Server Settings
Once you have selected a way to access your mail, use the following server settings:
- Incoming mail server:
mail.quuxo.net - Protocol:
IMAPorPOP3 - Security: is supported, use
SSL,TLSorStartTLS - User name: your full vee.net emaill address, for example:
mike@vee.net - Password: your normal vee.net password
Outgoing Mail
You can usually use your Internet service provider's outgoing mail server for sending email from your vee.net address, if so then this is the best option. Alternatively, you can use Quuxo's mail server for sending email.
Using Your ISP
Using your ISP's (or office's) mail server will be the fastest and easiest way to send email using your vee.net email address.
Most ISPs will let you send mail through their mail server, regardless of what you put as the "from" address. See their configuration information for the server settings to do this.
Sometimes this will not be allowed, but try it first. If you cannot, then keep reading below.
Using Quuxo
To send email using the Quuxo mail server, you will need an email client that supports secure SMTP using StartTLS. Mozilla Thunderbird is one such email client.
Once you know your mail client supports secure SMTP, use the following server settings:
- Outgoing mail server:
mail.quuxo.net - Protocol:
SMTP - Security: is required, use
StartTLS - User name: your full vee.net emaill address, for example:
mike@vee.net - Password: your normal vee.net password
Any questions? Send me an email mike@vee.net :)
